Inaugural Post!!!

Well I am probably the 737 654th music blog to come out in the last three years, but nevertheless I am excited!!! Very excited in fact; to be revisiting my two favorite past times: writing and music. I have named this blog "Alternative Selections" because I wish to cover all the many fringes of alternative electronic music. You can expect album reviews, tracks that I think are noteworthy, artists that I think are doing well, live shows etc. I realize that there are much, much bigger and frankly, better sites dedicated to that concept already. The point with this site however, is to focus on things at a grassroots level.

I don't want to be a nameless/ faceless giant website that is only tuned into the large scale of music. I wish to  become a presence in the local scene. I will not be shy in the origins of this blog, or myself for that matter. We are both located in the city of Edmonton, and have been for some time. I say "we" because this blog has, in many ways, been with me for several years now. I have lived with the concept of Alternative Selections ever since I found myself favoring the less explored sounds that make up the tapestry of music. This is meant to be a change of pace, a hope of exposing people to some new ideas, or  developing some ideas that are already out here. I know it sounds like I am trying to be all "messiah" for the city, but I just want to have fun with this blog. I also know that Edmonton is a great place to party already!

The main goal here is to represent the perpetual exploration of sonic themes and ideas. Anything that is new and exciting is encouraged, anything that pushes preconceived notions and boundaries are greatly welcomed! Of course, while the focus for me personally will always be my hometown, anyone from anywhere is welcome to read and certainly any feedback is greatly appreciated! I would eventually like to expand to my own domain ASAP, also to eventually launch a more professional looking static site. I would like for this blog to grow and expand, hopefully turning Edmonton into somewhat more of a global force, thus putting it on the map! (Emphasis on "like" but I know how most of these blogs turn out)

If you are a local DJ or producer who favors the Alternative, then by all means don't be afraid to submit any of your work here. Eventually I would like to have a monthly mix series of local genre defiers. I would specifically like bedroom/ basement DJs and producers who get rare, or no exposure at all. Also, if you are an established Edmonton DJ who happens to be bored one afternoon, and wants to vent something that is a little more obscure than a proper club set, feel free to get in touch. I will certainly take any and all star power that I can. get Also, don't be afraid to spread the word. I don't expect great things from this blog, but I would like to know that I am not just writing to myself every day.

Sorry for the long post, but it was after all the inaugural post, and I haven't written anything creatively in forever so be patient. Look for updates here and there until about mid-December when the first really, really big posts start coming. That will of course be the year-end-wrap-up!

Thanks for reading,
Kody
